from 29th August to 25th November 2012, the 13th International Architecture Exhibition directed by david chipperfield and titled ‘common ground‘ (for its double meaning: shared ideas / shared territory) will take place
the exhibition will be complemented by 55 national participations and four nations will be participating for the first time: angola, the republic of kosovo, kuwait, and peru
the theme ‘inter cities / intra cities: ghostwriting the future’ will explore the sustainable urban growth for the future of hk and large cities around the world

on this occasion, chipperfield hopes to reconnect architects, both to each other and to the wider public and to expand the debate on how to jointly shape the shared built environment. in hong kong this double meaning has added poignancy. indeed, the phrase ‘one country, two systems‘ is a maxim constantly under interrogation

the question raised will be to what extent does hong kong retain a different system, and how does this different system envisage the involvement of its citizens in shaping their future?

with 320 hectare, kowloon east, one of the hk district, will be analyzed as well as the development projects officially and unofficially forecast on this part of the city
it will also be the occasion for the firms who have been involved or who will be to give their point of view on the inhabitation of this fast-growing region in the future. the exhibition will even go further as a deep analysis of past project will be made in order to under the success and the failures known
a response exhibition will be held in hong kong in spring 2013
